Our project for Meteo 473 (Computer Applications to Meteorology) for the spring semester of 2008 was to ultimately develop a simple forecast system to predict hurricane movement and changes in hurricane intensity.
The project can be broken up into three main sections. First, in the preliminary work section, we summarize the function of the Matlab code that we wrote in order to analyze hurricane storm data and meteorological variables stored in large databases. Then, we discuss the methods involved in using these data to create a forecast system using the program Weka. Finally, we interpret our results and discuss the societal implications on our work to forecast hurricanes.
