For this milestone, Matt Rydzik was elected team leader of team one. Our work continues to be displayed on the server http://kiveo.coaster-net.com. The team is still made up of Allyson Clark, Ben Green, Tyler Ruff, and Matt Rydzik.
During this milestone, we put the finishing touches on our website. We decided to change around the organization of our website slightly to make it as user-friendly as possible for all the relevant content.
The work from previous milestones is still found on the website, but has been moved slightly. The feature to plot maps on Google Maps is now found under the 'Map' tab and downloads of our previous milestones are found under 'Downloads'. Milestone write-ups are also still under 'About.'
The two new tabs are 'Forecast' and 'Project.' 'Forecast' directs the browser to an interactive version of our statistical model. By entering in current storm data, a user can generate predictions for changes in the storm for the next three hours. We pared down our equations to the most relevant variables. The user enters the requested data into a form on the website, and then clicks the enter button. Predicted change in intensity, latitude, and longitude are then displayed for the user. PHP was used to code in the form.
Under the 'Project' tab is a summary of our project and the societal implications of hurricane forecasting. First there is an explanation of how data was sorted and analyzed in milestones one, two, and three with graphs from Matlab. Videos are also provided that show how to run the programs in Matlab. A similar set-up is used to describe how we used Weka to derive our final statistical models. Finally, an explanation of how hurricane forecast is helpful to society in general and the implications of our specific model is the conclusion to the summary of our work.
